LotR War in the North: Sets

The below tables were manually constructed by reverse-engineering the game to drop specific items (see Drop Any Item), and transcribing the displayed data for each set.

This table was constructed by hand and is not permitted to be reproduced in any other medium or on any other site. You may link to this page as needed.

War in the North contains 20 item sets. Each character class has three exclusive sets (one of which is exclusive to the game's preorder bonus, and can only be "completed" in one way). The other 11 sets are available to all classes.

Any armor piece, excluding shields, can belong to an item set. Equipping multiple items in the same set confers progressive bonuses as detailed below. All effects stack with existing armor effects and elfstones. Sets can be mixed and matched e.g. if a lesser rank of two different sets is desired.

Sets can be very useful during story progression (particularly Fortune, the first rank of which doubles all dropped money). Unfortunately, item sets are quickly outclassed by higher-tier elfstones and provide little utility for end-game builds. This is compounded by the following:

  • Set effects do not scale with difficulty level.
  • The majority of set items have zero elfstone slots, with double-slotted set items being especially rare.

In fact, analysis proves that it is never worth sacrificing an elfstone slot for any set bonus, provided the desired legendary elfstones are available. In other words, a build consisting entirely of two-slotted items will always outperform any build relying on a set bonus. This is balanced only by the extreme rarity of finding legendary elfstones themselves.
